Get to Know Brent

Rooted in the County, Committed to Our Future.

As a local farmer, small business owner, and community volunteer—I'm here to listen, represent, and serve.

I’ve called Red Deer County home my entire life. I was born and raised on a mixed grain and cattle farm just north of Spruce View, and today, I live in the Kevisville area with my wife, Allison, and our two boys—Zackery (12) and Owen (10). Together with our boys we have proudly resurrected my Grandpa's farm name, Golden Hour Farms. We are running a 100 head cow/calf operation alongside my in-laws. On the side I also operate a small business. I earned my Red Seal in Cabinetmaking back in 2011, I went on to start Highland Woodworking in 2020. I’ve spent 20 years working in the construction industry after starting to work in my trade at 15 years old. We’re proud to be involved in our community and take on volunteer roles wherever we can. Being part of this community isn’t just where we live—it’s who we are. It was through my volunteer experience that I gained the knowledge and support to successfully run for Council in 2021. I spent the few years prior building my platform and finding out what residents needed from their representative. If you'd like to learn more about me, my family, or what I stand for, please reach out. Just head over to the Contact Me section of this website to get in touch by email or phone. I'm always happy to set up a time for a conversation. I look forward to connecting with you and hearing what matters most to you when it comes to your County Mayor.

Inspiring Positive Change

I’ve always believed that leadership starts by showing up for your neighbours.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of stepping into roles that strengthen our community—from running a small business, coaching and officiating hockey, to chairing local committees and pushing for meaningful change where it counts. I’m proud of where we’ve been, but I’m even more excited about where we can go together.

I have been volunteering on boards, committees and events since I was 18 years old. I always set out to bring people together and lead by example. While trying to motivate the next generation to get involved—I believe good leadership means rolling up your sleeves and getting to work. That’s exactly what I plan to keep doing as your Mayor of Red Deer County.

Leadership in Business & Team Building

Small Business Owner, Big Picture Thinker

Before starting Highland Woodworking, I managed a cabinetmaking shop, led a team of 12, and launched a company social club to build morale. I understand what it takes to manage people, meet goals, and foster strong, respectful workplace culture.

Community-Driven Leadership

Building Stronger Connections, One Event at a Time

Formerly as President of the Spruce View Ag Society, I focused on hosting more events, collaborating with local groups, and creating a stronger sense of community. I brought in new and younger board members to energize the organization. Together we updated the bylaws to provide structure and governance for the future.

Supporting Post Secondary Education

Resources for Rural Students

After being elected as a Councillor I started the Brent Ramsay Young Leader Scholarship. Awarding $1000 annually to a rural Red Deer County student enrolled in post secondary education. The application focuses on volunteer contributions to their local community.

Investing in Youth Through Sport

Building Confidence, Character & Leadership

Supporting youth has always been at the core of my community work. Coaching minor sports is my most rewarding passion. My goal as a coach has never been to win championships - its always to be a players first coach. I want to instill confidence and a passion for sport in the kids while teaching team skills that will contribute to their success later in life.

Conflict Resolution Through Experience

Calm Under Pressure, Clear in Communication

I dedicated over 20 years as an on ice hockey official. My time officiating elite-level hockey taught me how to stay grounded in high-pressure situations. You won’t always please everyone, but you can always treat them with respect and offer clear, honest communication.

Growing Grassroots & Female Representation in Officiating

Off the ice I was a mentor and supervisor for local officials. As Female Development Coordinator, I focused on increasing support and visibility for young women in officiating through training and tailored camps. This work earned provincial recognition. Later, I took on the Male Development Coordinator role to expand our elite program and ensure young rural officials had the opportunity to succeed.

Creating Space in Sport

Let’s build something great, together.
